Marine Sound Signal Mk.8
The Marine Sound Signal has been in service with worldwide Navies for many years.
Developed for the UK Royal Navy as a cheap, safe, hand launched, surface-to-submarine signalling device for exercise and communication purposes.
The signal is supplied in a ready to use state requiring no services or preparation. To function, the signal is opened by peeling off the ‘ring pull’ lid. The safety clip is then removed by pulling a lanyard and the device is ready to be dropped in the water.
All safety features, the hand-operated safety clip, the hydrostatic pressure switch and the magnesium silver sea water electrolytic bridge, must operate before detonation occurs.
If operational conditions prevent detonation the signal will ‘fail-safe’ after five minutes immersion.
