Naval Decoy Systems

Naval Decoy SystemsThe modern anti-ship missile is fast, deadly accurate, and can be launched from the air, surface of sub-surface and guided by radar, Infra-Red or electro-optical homing devices. The attack profile can be sea-skimming or high-diving, remaining undetected until close into its selected target.

The objective of all countermeasures is to deny or delay acquisition of targets by missiles until they are no longer capable of impacting their designated termination point.

The Wallop Defence Systems Barricade and SuperBarricade family of decoy systems provides a layered defence, with the proven ability to protect naval ships from the modern missile threat.

The layered defence offers an enhanced ability to protect a ship from a variety of missile threats, and types, launched simultaneously.

Confusion
Highly effective against search and target indication radars during the search and selection phase. Chaff is deployed in the threatened vessel’s vicinity to confuse an enemy’s sensors by offering a number of realistic but false targets. This denies or delays acquisition of a real target.

Distraction
Effective against radar and Infra-Red homing missiles during the target search phase. A threatened vessel can surround itself with decoys, when missile attack is imminent. When the missile commences its pre-programmed search of the target area it will select a decoy before reaching the threatened vessel.

Dump/Range Gate Pull Off
Chaff decoys are deployed at short range in co-ordination with an on-board jammer, denying range information to the ‘locked on’ missile. The missile is subsequently ‘dumped’ into the Chaff decoy.

Seduction/Centroid
Effective against a ‘locked on’ missile, providing a large and attractive decoy in the close vicinity of the threatened vessel. This, together with an effective ship manoeuvre, draws the missile from the real target to the centre of the decoy.
